Nālandā

So I was reading William Edlglass’s piece introducing Śāntideva’s Bodhicaryāvatāra for G’s class next week. Śāntideva’s teachings of how to cultivate our direct apprehension of emptiness of self and phenomena indeed are inspiring, in particular the emphasis on patience.

I am also curious about Nālandā, the university, where Śāntideva stayed. As “one of the first great universities in recorded history,” Nālandā had a nine-story library and had attracted students and scholars from all over the continent back to the time before the 12th century. Here are two videos I find helpful for imagining the life studying on the spectacular campus of Nālandā.

I hope one day I can visit the site myself.
